CPI Increases: Implications for Consumers and the Economy
Core CPI on the Rise
According to the latest data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the core Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.4% in April compared to the previous month, and 5.5% year-over-year. These figures met expectations.
Overall CPI Trends
In comparison to December 2023, the CPI increased by 1.19%, while it increased by 4.4% from April 2022. On average, prices increased by 4.9% in the first four months of 2023.
Slight Cooldown in Inflation
Although the CPI increased by 4.9% year-over-year in April, this represents a slight cooldown from the 5% increase observed in March. This slowdown indicates a potential easing of inflationary pressures.
