Chandipura Virus Outbreak: 53 Cases Confirmed in India
51 Cases Reported in Gujarat, 2 in Rajasthan
As of July 31, India has reported 53 confirmed cases of Chandipura virus, with 51 originating from Gujarat and two from Rajasthan, according to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda.
In June and July alone, 51 cases of the virus have been confirmed, primarily in Gujarat. The Chandipura virus is transmitted by vectors such as mosquitoes, ticks, and sandflies. In the 2003-2004 outbreak in Central India, hundreds of people were infected.
