This Life-Size Lego McLaren P1 Can Hit Almost 40mph

A car builder has spent 1,800 hours painstakingly piecing together a life-size model of the McLaren P1 from more than half a million toy bricks.

The finished creation - which weighs around 1,500kg - can reach speeds of 38mph powered by a fully electric motor, with two adults on board.

Builder and automotive photographer Dan Yeffet spent six months designing the model on CAD software before ordering 463,000 Lego Technic bricks, 203,000 Lego System bricks and 17,000 Lego pins and axles. The final product is steered by a steering wheel with paddle shifters that have been modified to engage the Lego-built 4-speed sequential gearbox.

The high-performance model has a 4.8kWh battery powering its electric motor, and also features bespoke headlights and taillights so the driver can see at night.

It has a top speed of 38mph and a range of almost 10 miles - but it takes a few hours to recharge. The life-size McLaren P1, which measures 16ft by 7ft, was revealed at the UK's first ever Lego Fan Weekend. Yeffet said the car was his 'most ambitious build ever'.
